On the 19th I had to fly to Rajahmundry from Cochin. I had an early morning flight and hence took my car and parked it at the airport. I informed the staff that I would return in about 4-5 days. The lady at the counter took it as five and made a bill for 5 days amounting to Rs. 750. I asked her if money would be refunded if I returned earlier. She made a feeble yes as another lady staff came in and joined her.
The new staff had overheard us and said that once a receipt is made, no refunds are allowed. When I argued that it sounds illogical, she retorted saying that they do not have provision for making a return receipt. In such an advanced world, and in a quite modern airport like Cochin, I guessed the ladies were being just silly. I was however, hoping that I would need the parking for all five days and hence decided to deal with it on return if required.
I returned on day four. And got prepared to put up a fight if required for my rightful refund of Rs 150. I was happy to not find the same ticket vendor. I talked to the new guy. To my relief he told me that I would be refunded at the main gate. I asked him why I need to roam around and why he could not give me my money. He told me he has not done it before. I asked him to give it a try. He told me that at the main gate it would just take two minutes.
I took one final view around. Went to my car, reversed it for exit. Waited a few moments to and as I turned for ignition, I saw in my mirror the new counter guy running towards me. He called me back to his office, took my receipt and gave me the balance amount back. He had called up at the main gate and learnt about his new powers of refunding the customer.
It was a relief. I returned to my hometown smiling.
